Tony Abbott As Australia's Most Senior Political Catholic Must Defend the Pope

Federal Minister for Health, Tony Abbott, as the Australian Catholic in the most senior political position, should come out and  defend Pope Benedict against the concerted attacks made on him by radical muslims.

It's interesting how some people react to allegations of violence and intolerance  by committing more acts of violence and intolerance.

We have a tradition of free speech and rational debate in the Christian World, which is obviously regarded as heresy in some other quarters.

In the early years of the Howard Govermment, Tony Abbott  as Minister Without Portfolio for the Undermining of One Nation, showed himself to be a head-kicker and political hatchet man of no mean order.

He can now redeem himself by being the one Australian poltician to come out fighting and make a stand on this important issue.

It has escaped the Australian media, but the current attack on the Pope Benedict XVI and our reaction to it  is a decisive moment in history. If the Christian World can't stand united on this, we might as well hand Osama Bin Laden the keys to the shop and invite  him to take over.
