Electricity Privatisation - Liberals Adopt Another One Nation Policy
The decision by the NSW Liberal / National opposition to vote against electricity privatisation is yet another example of them scoring with a policy taken from One Nation.
The coalition has won elections by adopting One Nation policies such as offshore detention for illegal immigrants, abolishing ATSIC and the introduction of a citizenship test.
Whether the ultimate plan of the Liberals is to sell the electricity generation system anyway is another matter.
However, not only have the Liberals got the message but the Trade Unions and elements of
the ALP have as well. According to the Daily Telegraph of December 20th, 2007, Michael Costa is said to have characterised opponents of electricity privatisation as '"running One Nation-like campaigns about foreign ownership "
Opinion polls consistently say around 80 per cent of the NSW electorate don't want electricity privatisation, so the NSW parliament has got it right. However, as usual One Nation, being the voice of the people, had it right in the first place.
One Nation says the way to prosperity is to dump economic rationalism, halt the sell off of public assets, stop foreign takeovers of Australian companies and raise import tariffs to protect industries like automotive manufacturing which are faced with total annihilation by cheap imports.
