Import Tariffs Must Be Increased, Not Lowered, To Protect Our Car Industry
Import tariffs are the only way to preserve the Australian car industry from annihilation by cheap imports, and they must be raised, not lowered.
Contrary to what the globalists tell us, the great economies of the world, like that of the US and Japan, were built by tariffs walls, not free trade.
Low or zero tariffs don't give the much-vaunted "level playing field", because overseas manufacturers reside on the "raised ground" of cheap labour, poor working conditions, low tax, corrupt governments and lax environmental laws. The only way to get a level playing field is to redress that imbalance with import tariffs.
Any journalist who tells us our industries should stand on their own two feet is a hypocrite, because it is a fact that workers in the media and entertainment industry are heavily protected against foreign competition themselves - just try to get one overseas actor in to play a part on an Australian TV series or one overseas journalist to work in TV, radio or the press and see what hurdles you have to jump over.
Would the public servants and academics who promote free trade in their government-commissioned reports like their jobs to be transferred overseas via cyberspace where no doubt they can be done very much cheaper?
Why do we protect journalists, actors, public servants and economists against foreign competition but not our car-makers?
Meaningful jobs where workers can have a sense of pride in having built something and can learn real skills are more important than being able to able to save a few hundred dollars on the price of new car.
How competitive will our car industry be when it doesn't exist anymore?
One Nation says Australian workers and consumers aren't here to build up the profits of overseas corporations, so how about our Government doing something of lasting benefit to Australia by throwing out the discredited policy of free trade.
